Welcome. This webpage is meant to supply our sales partners with information to clarify commonly asked questions about our winery, our brands, and our farming processes. If you find this information useful please let us know, and of course suggestions for improvement are always welcome. This list will grow as more questions arise. The goal is to provide you with the best information to make your sales efforts a success!

Where did Ceago Vinegarden come from?
Ceago Vinegarden was initially concieved by Jim fetzer in 1993 when he purchased the McNab Ranch south of Ukiah and transformed it into his first Biodynamic farm. Construction on Ceago Del Lago, which is the Wine and Food Center on the north shore of Clearlake in Lake County, California, began in 2001. This is the new home of Ceago Vinegarden and is the basis for our customer and sales partner education programs. In the future Ceago Del Lago will be transformed into a Biodynamic Wine Country Destination Resort & Spa.

What does "Ceago" mean?
Ceago is derived from a Pomo Indian word (spoken Shee-ye-ho) that meant "grass-seed valley". Sometimes if you say grass-seed valley quickly people hear "grassy valley" - you'll have to decide when to clarify the distinction.

What is the difference between the terms Ceago, Ceago Vinegarden, and Ceago Del Lago?

"Ceago" is a term used generally (and informally) to refer to most aspects of our operations including the wine brand (Ceago Vinegarden) and the Food and Wine Center on Clearlake (Ceago Del Lago). Since it's one word, and concise it's fine to continue using "Ceago" in this manner.

"Ceago Vinegarden" is our official trademark and wine brand. If you look closely at our labels you will see the "Vinegarden" portion just beneath "Ceago". Sometimes it's helpful to remember this distinction by thinking about our new tagline "Garden quality farming". Ceago Vinegarden also refers to our Farm Center at Clearlake where we host events, have a tasting room, and do biodynamic education.

"Ceago Del Lago" refers to the entire ranch located on the north shore of Clearlake, Lake County, California. If you haven't had the opportunity to visit us here, we hope that can happen soon. Once you see the things we are talking about in action it tends to make your understanding of our brand increase significantly!

Do you have any concise ways to describe Biodynamic Farming?
This is a good question - and one we hope to resolve for you. We use a few different phrases to describe what we do that should be useful in the market. The first is "Organic Plus" - this is generally sufficient to convey our commitment to pesticide and herbicide free agriculture, and leaves open the door to go deeper if the customer is interested. The second phrase we use is "Garden quality farming" - which conveys a sense of attention to detail generally reserved for home gardens. For more info remember to see the Biodynmics section of this website.
